McKenzie from Idaho.

Hometown: Rexburg, Idaho

Major: Physical Therapy

Age: 22

Favorite Food: “Anything will peppers! Serving my mission in New Mexico made me learn to appreciate all kinds of spicy foods. So anything with some spicy peppers is so yummy.”

Favorite thing about BYU-Idaho?:

“The fact that it is in Rexburg. Since I have lived here my entire life it has been great to watch Ricks College turn into BYU-Idaho. I love how my family is down the street from me too, so that is always a bonus.”

If money was no object what would you do all day?:

“Well, that is a hard one for sure. I really enjoy running, I could run all day if i was given the chance. So I guess that is what I would do…run all over the country in races.”

Who do you admire most in life?:

“I admire when people go out of there way to help one another. That being said, I probably admire my mom the most because she always goes out of her way to help people. It doesn’t matter the situation, my mom is there ready to give up her time to help.”

What is your biggest success up until now?:

“I ran a marathon about a year ago. I prepared so much for that run. I mean I would get up really early to train and everything. Besides my mission, that was probably the most effort I have ever put into something. When I finished I felt so accomplished and it was a huge success in my life.”

Where do you most want to travel and why?:

“Since I have been to New Mexico and there is a lot of Mexicans there, I would love to go to Mexico the country. I love the people of Mexico and their food, so I am sure I would love Mexico itself!”

What do you think is your purpose on earth?:

“Be in a constant missionary mode and bring others closer to Christ!”

Favorite Food: “Well I served my mission in Germany, so I would have to say German chocolate! No other food compares.”

Favorite thing about BYU-Idaho?:

“The teachers. I have been to other colleges and no other teaches compare to the ones at BYU-Idaho. A good teacher will learn to listen to the Spirit and you can truly feel the difference in their teaching.”

If money was no object what would you do all day?:

“In Germany they have a lot of little sports cars. I would love to pick out any one I wanted and drive one of those all over Germany. There is tons of little curvy roads that go down hill, so it would be so fun to own one of those sports cars and just bomb the hills.”

Who do you admire most in life?:

“I admire people’s will to press on in hard times. I have seen a lot of people in my life who were at low places in their life, yet they never gave up. Everyone is given a specific set of cards they have been dealt and sometimes you just have to deal with what you have been given. Life is hard, and my deepest admiration comes from those who endure to the end no matter how hard their life is.”

What is your biggest success up until now?:

“My mission would probably have to be my biggest success. I know that sounds so cliche, but honestly it was some of the hardest times of my life (as well as the best). Teaching the people of Germany the gospel was hard because they are so stuck in their ways, but I know it was something I had to do. It defiantly was my biggest success.

Where do you most want to travel and why?:

“I want to go back to Germany! I learned to really love the country and I would love to go back and visit the areas I was not able to see on my mission.”

What do you think is your purpose on earth?:

“Be the nicest person I possibly can to those who are in need”.

Favorite thing about BYU-Idaho?:

“The friendly people on campus. Everyone always smiles at you.”

If money was no object what would you do all day?:

“That is a hard one because I love the idea of working hard for my money. I guess though if I did not have to worry about money, I would drive around in fast cars all day.”

Who do you admire most in life?:

I admire both of my parents, but my dad has been the biggest influence in my life. He has taught me everything I know and is my constant source of wisdom. He has taught me everything from how to manage my money to how to edit an essay for my classes. My dad is seriously the best ever and my biggest admiration”.

What is your biggest success up until now?:

“I would have to say that for me success is measured by accomplishment. That being said my biggest accomplishment up until now was serving a mission for the church. I grew so much during that time and through my accomplishments that I gained there I know I have gained more success.”

Where do you most want to travel and why?:

“I would love to go to Europe, specifically Italy. I always loved the idea of being in Italy. Everything sounds appealing and I heard the food is absolutely amazing. Europe just has so much history behind it.”

What do you think is your purpose on earth?:

“I think that this life is the opportunity that all of us are given to do our best. We choose daily to be mediocre or excellent people by the decisions that we make. My greatest fear is looking back one day and realizing that I did not live up to my potential.”

Favorite thing about BYU-Idaho?:

“The openness of the people on campus. I thought it was going to be hard for me to make friends when I first got here because I was so foreign, but actually it has been the opposite!”

Tell me about your craziest experience and what you learned from it:

“My best experience was working for a three star safari lodge in Mukambi, Africa. It is one of the five biggest parks in the world and the second biggest in Africa. The more important thing I learned there was the ability to interact with people of all different backgrounds and learn how they became successful. I learned to seek your own desires and learn to respect those desires.”
